5 Dining Etiquette in Germany


It is always important to remember one’s manners, whether eating at a restaurant or with family in their home. Here is a brief guide as to what to expect and how to behave when eating in Germany. Germany and Europe is not very different from that in the USA, but there are a few variations that you should know about it.


1. Dining etiquette for beginning to eat

Do not begin eating until the host has said, "Guten Appetit" (“Enjoy your meal!”)

2. Dinning etiquette at Business Dining.

If you are attending a business luncheon or dinner in Germany business is business, even when dinning. Shake hands (firmly) when greeting people

3.Do not cut the whole piece of meat at one single time. 

Cut of the meat into bite size,cut one piece and then eat. While chewing cut of another piece. The point is that to save some time

4.Utensil

When finished, lay your knife and fork side by side on your plate pointing to the center, with the handles on the lower right rim

5.Make your plate clean

Finish all the food that are taken and make sure do not waste it any of them . It’s considered impolite to leave food on your plate.
