5 Tips about Korean table manner


Korea may consider as another state of ceremonies, even for young generation able to practice good manners. Korean cultural are similar to Chinese cultural due to their cultural were learned from China's Tang Dynasty. But still, Korean has come out their own table manner.






  • Left hand is not allowed to put on table



↣Different from Chinese and Japanese, Korean do not follow norms that carry your rice bowl while eating, it seems misbehave to them. Some more, they fit iron bowl with rice. If we use hands to hold rice bowl might hurt ourselves.

  • Drink soup first then rice before eating other dishes

↣Use your right hand to pick up spoon first and drink soup then eat one spoon of rice. Repeat this step one more time, after that you only able to choose whatever dishes that you want. This is the sequence for Korean having meal.


  • Spoon and Chopsticks are not allowed to use together

     ↣In Korea tradition, spoon is more important than chopsticks. While you are not using it, it should be place on the table, beside your rice bowl. Don’t use chopstick to eat food in soup, and should be using spoon to eat. This not only about etiquette and custom but also prevent a wet chopstick may affect others while you are eating those sharing dishes.

     





  • Take food into your own plate while the dishes are sharing with others

From others Asian country, you may seen their custom is using serving chopstick or spoon. In Korean, everyone has their own plate and pick dishes that they want into their own plate instead of sharing dishes by using personal chopstick and spoon.


 
  • After finished your meal, put your spoon and chopsticks back on where you picked up.

↣After finishing meal, put your chopstick with flat on where you picked them up. Beside this, if you not using chopstick it have to be place on your right hand side with 2/3 on the table and 1/3 outside the table. It is for people convenient to pick them up.
